VERB
What is VERB ?: - Verb is the word or words that refers to a type of action or action.
Ex: - run, read, write, remember, etc.verb or verb are mainly two (2) types-
1> Finite Verb or equivalent verb 2> Non-finite Verb or non-finite verb
Finite Verb
What is Finite Verb ?: - All verbs that are fully or fully expressed by the speaker are called Finite Verb.
Example:
He went to the market.
The boy plays cricket.
There are some features of Finite Verb. These are: -
The meaning of Sentence is fully expressed.
The speech of the speaker is fully or completely expressed. Etc.
Finite Verb is again divided into two parts.
a> Principal Verb or main verb
b> Auxiliary Verb or auxiliary verbs
Principal Verb or main verb
Principal Verb is the verb that verb can perform independently without the help of any other verb.Example:
They go
They play football in the field.
There are two types of Principal Verb.
Namely:
I. Transitive Verb
II. Intransitive Verb or Offensive verbs
Transitive Verb:
The verb that contains the object or action of the verb is called the transitive verb.Example:
I bought a book.
I like to read book.
Here are some features of Transitive Verb. These are: -
● The main Verb is followed by one or more objects.
Intransitive Verb
All verbs that do not have an object or action are called Intransitive Verb.Example:
He went to school.
Birds fly in the sky.
The features of Intransitive Verb are: -
● They have no object or action after them.
Since they don't have an object, they sit at the end of the sentence.
Auxiliary Verb
The Verbs used in a Sentence, which helps Principal Verbs to fully express the meaning of Principal Verbs, are called Auxiliary Verb.The following are the features of Auxiliary Verb: -
● The main feature of Auxiliary Verbs is that Auxiliary Verbs does not express itself by being used in Sentence.
● Auxiliary Verbs aids Principal Verb in expressing the meaning of Sentence.
Some examples of Auxiliary Verb:
am, is, are, were, were, have, had, had, shall, shall, will, would, may, might, could, could etc.
Auxiliary Verb is divided into two parts: -
Namely:
I. Primary AuxiliariesII. Modal Auxiliaries
Primary Auxiliaries
Verbs that are used as sentences for Helping or Auxiliary Verb are called Primary Auxiliaries.Primary Auxiliaries are -
Be verb: am, is, are, was, were, were
Have verb: has, have, had
Do verb: do, does, did
Modal Auxiliaries
Auxiliaries verbs used to denote moods or modes are called Modal Auxiliaries.Some Modal Auxiliaries verb are: -
shall, should, will, would, may, might, can, could, etc.
Non-finite verb
2. Non-finite verb or non-finite verb
Non-finite Verb is the verb that does not fully express the meaning of a sentence and does not change the number of the Subject and any variant of the verb by Person.Non-finite Verb is mainly divided into three parts.
a> Gerund
b> Participle
c> Infinitive
Gerund
Gerund is prepared by associating ing with verb. Whereas Gerund = Verb + ing.Also known as Double Parts of Speech.
Example:
■ Swimming is a good exercise.
■ Sleeping is necessary to life.
Participle
The form of Verb that accomplishes the functions of both Verb and Adjective together is called Participle.There are three types of participle.
Namely:
I> Present Participle
II> Past Participle
III> Perfect Participle
Present Participle
When a Verb's ing form works with both Verb and Adjective, it is called Present Participle.Example:
■ This blog is interesting.
Past Participle
Past Participle is a participle that refers to any work that has been done in the past.Example:
■ I got a decorated room.
Perfect Participle
If both Adjective and Verb perform their functions in conjunction with Verb's Past Participle, then it is called Perfect Participle.Example:
■ Having seen this article, you started to read.
■ The sun having risen, the fog disappeared.
Infinitive
Infinitive is formed by placing the verb in front of the present form.Example:
■ You came to read the article.
■ You have to read this article.
■ I come to see.
